Script UI opens then closes instantly

igamaximus · 2018-07-27

Hi Merlin.

I have strange problem with starting your great tool:
The first time script worked out great in Max 2012. So i created macroscript and made toolbar button for it which also worked great.
But suddenly starting from few days ago, i can't use the script at all: whenever i press toolbar button, or i go with run script and run it manually, i see that script UI blinks for a moment and right away it turnes off. So now, each time, just a blink of script UI is all that i see, when i run the script.
Do you have an idea maybe what may cause this weird problem?

I remember the same thing happen when i tried to use previous version of the script, also...

Thank you for this great tool.

Works in 2016

I can confirm this works in 2016 now! Thanks Merlin!

Not working in 3ds max 2012

mike epps · 2015-12-14

Hi I tried to run the script in 3ds max 2012 but it doesn't seem to be working. it doesn't show up in any category when I go to customize Ui and try to add a button. What is it listed under in the category drop down menu?

UPDATE: import of several SelectionSet file now possible!

merlinpy · 2015-06-23

Hi there!
I've found some time to update the tool and add some functions.
Now you can open the SelectionSet Tool of Max and, as you all requested, import more than one selection set at once.
Pressing the new button "Import SSets" will give you a list of all txt-files in the chosen folder. All chosen items will be imported as long as they contain a selection set.
Hope that helps!

perfect

awesome - thank you!!!

kirillall · 2014-04-16

Hi merlinpy. Very handy script. Thank you. I cant import multiple sets at once. Is it possible?

multiple selection sets

merlinpy · 2014-04-18

Hi kirillall,
the script creats a text-file with all the selection sets of the export scene file. So if you import that text file, all these sets will be recreated.
You can open the text file with an editor and have a look at all the sets and their objects.
Does that answer your question?

Able to import individual Selection Sets only, not collections

Quetzy · 2015-03-21

Hi merlinpy, thanks for creating this script! I can export an entire SS collection easily, but at the moment all I'm able to figure out is how to import individual Sets, not the entire exported collection. The Import window only seems to allow one set to be selected at a time from the list. Am I a totally helpless knob at the mercy of multiple-selection keystroke technique or have I reached a limitation of the script? Many thanks in advance! -Q

Sorry, I should clarify....

Quetzy · 2015-03-22

Hi Merlinply, I should clarify my question by describing the process;
In the Import window, I select Browse to navigate to the location of my Selection Sets. There I see the list of SS's that I had generated and exported from my master file. I try to select all (Ctrl-A) but it only allows me to select (and therefore import)one SS at a time, which would take way too long. What am I doing wrong. Thx! -Q

import multiple SS

merlinpy · 2015-04-23

Hi Q,
as you mentioned it right, the script allows to import only one SS a time.
If I'll find the time, I could change this for the future.
I'll keep you informed about updates!

Great script!

AndreySibiryakov · 2013-09-05

I've felt desperate need in such a handy tool.

Alas, script doesn't work with 2013 Max.
I can see .txt exported and all stuff inside,
but import command brings only empty selection set name.

bug fixed

merlinpy · 2013-09-11

Hi Andrey, thank you for your reply! I've fixed the problem with max2013 and updated the file. Please download the new version and let me know, if there are any bugs.
