A script that aligns objects along a path or spline. much more editable than the spacing tool. see how it works here or download complete package (with mini tut).
The script works fine here on max 9 (32 bit) and on max 2009 (64bit). Did not test on other versions.
The script is free so you may change and reuse it.
New development?

Hi, great script but wondered if anything has been updated since please. I found this on here a few weeks back and its a great script. The only problem I find is that the objects are welded more or less to the spline so when I move the obejcts it moves them oddly along the spline. The only way to fix this for me is edit poly mod and detach all objects then delete the spline. How about a possible fix for the near future please?
Cheers, Toby

I really LOVE your script, and I use it a lot!!
Now I´m creating an scalator, and i had to modify the script putting the follow as false. Is any possibility that you tell me how to add a checkbox "Follow"
I´ve added the UI but I have issues when declaration the variable.
I really don´t know where to add it :(
I thought about something like this (as I successfully did for my scripts):
checkbox chainlike "Follow" pos:[20,170]
on fol set val do delegate. path follow=val
on chainlike changed state do
(
if state==on then fol.enabled=true else fol.enabled=false
)
But it won't work here.
Would you help me please?
I am update script

Hey all
thanks for this script. I am fix some errors and add new functions:
- you can work with one spline, then pick another spline and work without close script
- interactive update when change numbers
- add spacing and ofset parameters
- can make snapshot all copied objects

daimyo · 2010-08-24
I tried it on Max 2010 x64 and it returns an error when hitting the create/update button. Highlights line 105: ) -- end for
satori · 2010-07-30
works great 2011 x64
good work man!
thanks!!

Works well on one spline, Is there a way to have a pick box, so I could select multiple splines at one time, rather than running closing opening
over multiple spline entitities?
works on my max 6 btw
Mr_Meph · 2010-05-25
Ehhh, thanks I suppose! xD
I tried as you said, and it didn't worked..
I had a little rage about it, and started doing a screen capture of the error so you could see it in video.
And of course, when I try to recreate the error to show you... It works...
So I guess you fixed it, but I have no clue how.. xD And yes, I did make sure the line was either just a line or Editable Spline both times...
Anyhow, best regards Mephy!

Very useful script!
Thanks le1setreter!

max 2010...
so finally i did some test on a machine with max 2010 64bit version and i am sorry but i can not reproduce the error.
maybe the error occur when the spline is not a line or editable spline object so i insertet a request in fixtry 1.7 if a spline and a object is really selected/picked and in fixtry 1.8 i deleted the classof filter in the picked object dialog for the spline.
anyway please try version 1.7 first before 1.8. if the error still occurs please give me a max 2010 test scene with the object and the spline that do not work. if i can reporduce the error i might get rid of it.
with best regards

Hey man, the script looks awesome, and it's supposed to work in 3DS Max 10 I see above me here, but when I try to use it, I get the following error:
-- Unable to convert: undefined to type: Integer
Then it highlights line 101. Now I know what Integer values is and such, and I'm looking at it, I'm guessing that something need to either be some sort of string or some other reason I need to define something that is undefined. But since the only things on line 101 is " ) -- end for " I don't really get any smarter...
Please help? I would very much like to use this script, as the current on in 3DS Max, well, you allready prooved it flaws...
Patient (I'll try) and positive regards from Meph.

thanks alot
glmig · 2009-07-10
Thanks for this great script.
I was thinking, is there a way to move the objects after they are placed on the splice? I think i cant move them because of the path constraint. thks
edit: snapshot tool solves this. Ty

hey titane357,
thanks for your feedback and your ideas:
- what do you mean with interactive? if you meant to animate the values i am very sorry but i think it won't work or more honestly i think am not good enough in achieving this.
- about keeping the settings i have thought about myself many times. yes, this would be a very nice feature. i should give it a try if i find the time.
side note: this has been the reason why i createt the "export all into new layer" function to a) keep the scene more cleaned up and b) to be able to fastly select all instances and delete them. the number behind the last instance name gives me the instance count so i can easily start the script and achieve same result in just a few clicks. (before the layer feature i tried to group the instances but this creates little changes in the positions and i could not find a solution on this.)
i have to mention i am a beginner in maxscript and my skills are far far behind from others here. but, i will try to improve this script with the "keep settings feature" and maybe come back with a new version.
if you or someone else here wants to change, rewrite, or expand the script just feel free to do so.
sorry for broken english. best wishes.
titane357 · 2009-07-09
yes we like it very much,.... BUT :
- can you make it interactive ?
- can you keep setting somewhere, so, when select spline, we can change settings ??
:-))
le1setreter · 2009-07-09
thanks for your kind words. i am glad you like it. :)
trick · 2009-07-09
This is actually very cool. Thanks ;)
NicolasC · 2009-07-09
Thanks a lot !!! it works like a charm ... much more useful and flexible than the std Spacing Tool pf 3dsmax ...
titane357 · 2009-07-09
works fine with 2010 ;-))
