I see that you bring the MaxScript window, show some code and then suddenly the shape pop in the viewport. I dont understand exactly what you did.
Should I write that code? I wonder if that could integrated in the script interface as a button

The window is the code used to create the shape which i loft. That can be found on my website under the welder script. It is called ConcaveConvex.
You don't need to write the code.

nice script, I want to use it but ... I still dont get it how you get the concave shape you show in the video ?? where are the options for concave and convex?
also it seems that it only work for intersections where the angle is the same all the way. Not really script's fault

First off great script!
I just had a a few questions
1. what does the "Angle" setting do?
2. what does sharp corners do?
3. In your video that you have on your website at 0:45 it shows that you were able to get a "line" under the "loft" modifier, how were you able to do that, i thought when you add Loft it collapses the stack?

I wonder whether the framework of your script couldn't also be used to fake bevels / round corners where unconnected geometry intersects (similar to the rounded corners mentalray function). would have to generate a unique loft shape after analyzing the intersecting areas i guess, complicated math.. ;)

The real cool thing about this script is you can apply a loft to the spline.

This should work better. You would need to color correct the bead map to match your metal.

All we would need to do is make a tileable displacement map with the different bead weld types. if you want to make a tileable texture I could then implement it into the script.
Keep in mind it is a spline object so it is automatically unwrapped which means you can put a tileable texture on it without any unwrapping needed.

It'd be cool if you could apply different weld type shaders with in your script. (See my attached ruff test) My quick shader test is a standard/diffused/bump/displaced/ rendered in MR.
Also what really would sell the effect is the blackened burn effect around the metal. Could "Vertex Paint modifier" be used?

Very interesting :). I'm guessing you did something like pro-boolean and got the open edge, and made it a spline, then applied a noise type modifier to it?

I have worked as a welder/plater for 10 years so i think options for: concave, convex and flat weld is essential. :)
Option to avoid intersecting dup. objects ("Extra Geometry") wold also be nice :)

When you weld with "bump type: none" , extra geometry is created. Other two options does not create extra geometry. I wonder if this is intended.

That is true mwaif. By default it still creates extra geometry. It was originally designed like that because the production called for it.
I can modify it if the community calls for it.
