miauu's Polyline allows you to create splines precisely with measurements and angles.
Now precision spline modeilng is easy and faster.
Create splines using:
- Ortho mode - it constrains drawn lines to the horizontal or the vertical - Polar Mode - it constrain your cursor movement into predefined angles - Freehand mode - create points without any constraints - Arc mode - create an arc that is a part of the current spline
- Object snap tracking - mark certain points on your geometry(splines, mesh objects, grid points) and continue to draw in their projection or intersection points.
Use command line or dynamic input fields to enter coordinates and all other possible commands.
miauu's Polyline version 1.5.
Changelog:
New commands added:
CA - close and start attached spline
CN - close and start new spline(not attached)
CE - close and exit miauu's Polyline.
VA - finish and start attached spline
VN - finis and start new spline
VE - finish and exit
In the Settings you can choose which symbol to use as separator sign ,(comma) or /(backslash). When comma is used as decymal symbol by the OS, please use the backslash as separator sign.
Pressing Esc key:
When on focus is the field where you enter the Y coordinates you can go back to Dimensional Input field and edit its value by pressing the Escape key. Y coordinates input field will disappear and you can edit the value in the Dimensional Input field or can continue creating next segment of the spline.
Fixed bug when drawing arcs
Great script

Hi Miauu,
A few questions:
1) Is it possible to have a keyboard shortcut to close spline->start attached spline?
I find myself having to right click, then select the option a lot when doing site plans, so a key bind would speed this up no end.
2) The polyline gets confused when you do an undo (U) after an arc, which results in the line continuing from the point before the last arc. Attached an example of this.
Mail me at miau_u@yahoo.com.
About 1) - I can add controls in the UI where you can choose what to be done when you right click. For example:
--When Right click do the following:
- show Close Spline UI
- close spline > start attached spline
- close spline > start new spline
- finish spline > start attached spline
- finish spline > start new spline
Also, a command can be added to the script, so when you enter, for example CA, the script will close the spline and will start attached spline.
about 2) - I can't reproduce it. Can you describe me how to reproduce that error - viewport, start drawing left to right, etc.
Mail me and we will discuss how to improve the script.

miauu's Polyline is updated to version 1.4.
Changelog: New command is added - Mid Between 2 Points. This command allows you to create the next point(knot) in the middle between two points. To run the command enter m2p in the Command Line or in the Dynamic Input field. Then click or use the keyboard to specify the first and the second point. The next point will be created in the middle between the two points.
In the SNAP rollout you can find Snap to Tangent, which works perfectly when the default Line tool is used to create a spline, but not works with tools, written via maxscript. The Perpendicular snap also not works with custom scripts that draw splines. I don't know whay this happens.

miauu's Polyline is updated to version 1.3.
Changelog: Now you to create the next point at desired distance in X or Y axis rotated at arbitrary angle. This way you will not enter the length of the segment, but the distance that the point will be moved in X or Y axis. For example if you want to use the command line and to create the next point at distance 50 units away in the X axis, rotated at 30 deg enter in command line: x50<30
Looks like a great script. Inferencing like in Sketchup would be good.
I guess you haven't implemented it as its not possible through maxs script but I do remember trying out a demo version of npower PowerNurbs plugin and it was very useable for creating splines using its inferencing functionality.
.
miauu · 2015-02-09
Thank you.
Can you show me a video where I can see how Inferencing in sketchup works?
Thank you.
This is something like OSNAP and OTRACK in AutoCAD. I will try to add such a feature in the next versions of the Polyline. The next update is ready with another new feature and I will release it these days. The Inferencing(OTRACK) will be the next, as much as possible via maxscript.

So, you essentially turned 3dsMax in Autocad (at least in a way). Very good job! :)

miauu's Polylineis updated to version 1.2
Changelog: - Added UI to choose what to do when you want to finish drawing of the spline. When you are ready with the spline creation click with the right mouse button and UI will be shown. You can choose to: - close the spline and start drawing new spline - close the spline and start drawing new attached spline - close the spline and exit - exit(without closing the spline) and start drawing new spline - exit(without closing) and start drawing new attached spline - exit When the script is started you can press the RMB and to select Start Attached Spline to start drawing spline that is automatically attached to the selected spline.
- You can enter "u" (without the quotes) to delete the last created knot. Works the same way as Alt+LMB click.
- You can execute any hotkey that not contains Ctrl. Shift or Alt key. To do this hold down the middle mouse button and press the desired keys.
- -FROM command - allows you to enter temporary reference or base point from which you can specify an offset to locate the next point. When the FROM command is active click in the viewport to set the base point or enter the base point coordinates (absolute or relative) using the keyboard. A marker will show the coordinates of the base point. Now you can use the keyboard to: - enter the offset location from the base point as a relative coordinate - move the cursor in the desired direction and enter the distance on which the new point will be created away from the base point - create segment with desired length rotated along the X axis or along the line from the last knot and the base point. Delta X and Delta Y will be measured from the specified base point. FROM command not works when ARC drawing mode is active.
Amazing work. Thanks to people like you - miauu, 3d max stays alive.
Very important that the script will be support 3d max 2010 version.

miauu · 2015-01-18
Thank you.
Actually, the script works with 3dsMax 2009, but there is a glitch in the UI - the command line, Pos and Deltas fields are not shown properly. When I fix it the script can be used in 3dsMAx2009.

Thank you, guys.
titane357, do you mean OTRACK in Autocad?
Branko, title is unique. :) The first part is mine, the second is yours. :) In the video that you mentoined - which is important between 1:00 - 1:10 - switching between drawing modes, or snpping to the vertex?

You done amaizing job. Title is unique :)
Funcionality ... great. +1
Titane357 have good suggestion.
Also watch part of this clip at 1:00 - 1:10min. That feature will be also nice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Somo5wSl6HQ

hi miauu, nice script and very nice ui.
but when drawing we need constraints aka autocad.
( align with existing vertex, parallel, perpendicular,...)
it is very important.
