Merge Layers from Max file

Hi !

I need a tool that would let me merge layers from a max file, the very same way we do when we import from a CAD file. So simple, so useful !

It's not exactly what you're looking for but this is what I do.

If you do a select all, then create a new layer all your objects will move to the new layer. Then just run "delete empty layers" and it'll remove all layers w/o objects. http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/delete-empty-layer-in-the-layer-manage…

It could do the trick for some occasions. I'm looking for this script ( merge by layer ) because we are working with files so big, that i need a tool that would let me merge without opening the source file and save a tempory one. We have a terminology for layers so it would be easy to get the layers we want.

But hey, every trick or suggestion is a welcome !
