extract uvw map from editable poly/mesh

i was wondering if there is a way or script to extract a uvw map modifier from an object that has had a uvw map modifier applyed, but then the object has been converted to an editable poly/mesh, so the modifier is missing. cheers

Add UVW Unwrap modifier to the object, get the data you want and delete the modifier.
