With this script you can replace pivot where you want.
on the selected vertex, at the center of the selected edge or face, or at the center of the object.
You also can create a point as pivot.

I like this script really a nice one and have been using it, but when I make a mirror or a copy it moves the object from its place after trying to align the pivot to a face.

@titane357, find the alignPivotToFace function and delete the "as Array" string (see the attachment). Edge align should work now.
Sorry for the mixup, i forgot that the script was encrypted and i had to decript it in order to fix this error... The author should release the fix :D

thanks for this simple script that replaces a couple others i have. can this be made as a dock-able toolbar? I'd like to just have it load up every time i start max. also can you provide a toggle for aligning the orientation to the sub-object selection? I don't always want the pivot's orientation to be affected.
