Seperates all the elements of a selected object into seperate objects themselves. Will work on editable polys - editable splines and editable meshes. Renames the newly created objects based on the originals name. Detaching function for splines is different from that of meshes and polys (does not center pivot/reset object)

I was writing something

I was writing something similar recently. It is pretty slow on large polygon counts but seems to do the job. @Ian, maybe you want to give it a try, I attached the file for you. You can just select a bunch of objects and it will show the detach progress while giving you some options like resetting transforms and randomizing wirecolors.

edit: for some reason it gets super slow when "delete original" is switched off, i'll try to find out why but better don't use that option for now

EDIT: Updated the script, as it crashed in Max 2011 and above. Seems that "detachToObject" method of Edit_Poly is broken. You can also now hold escape to abort the script. Performance still isnt good I fear :P

EDIT: Ah jeez. Had another version that I forgot about and that worked nicely and much faster (v3)
